Rachel Furness is the inaugural winner of the Women’s award for Vauxhall Northern Ireland Player of the Year.
The Northern Ireland and Reading midfielder, who has made over 50 appearances for her country, topped the public vote on www.vauxhallfootball.co.uk to claim the award.
Furness, who has spent the majority of her career at Sunderland, joined Reading in January after having two spells over 12 years on Wearside.
After receiving the trophy, 28-year-old Furness stated that it was a great honour to receive the award.
“I am absolutely delighted to be named Vauxhall Northern Ireland Player of the Year,” said Furness.
“We have some very talented players in the national squad, so to be given this award by our supporters is overhwleming and I cannot thank them enough.”
Cheryl Stibbs, Sponsorship Marketing Manager at Vauxhall, said: “Rachel has performed brilliantly throughout the year and we are delighted that she has won the award.
“We look forward to continuing our support of all Northern Ireland teams in 2017.”
