Striker Liam Boyce eased Ross County’s relegation worries when he scored a last-minute winner from the penalty spot to secure a 2-1 success over fellow strugglers Dundee in the Scottish Premiership last night.
The former Cliftonville forward, who also provided an assist for County’s opening goal, helped the Highlands outfit to only their second league win of 2017 when he slotted home his 16th of the campaign in the 90th minute.
Elsewhere on Tuesday evening, Rochdale midfielder Matthew Lund kept alive his side’s hopes of a League One play-off place when he scored in the comfortable 3-0 home win over 10-man Port Vale.
The 26-year-old, who made his competitive debut for Northern Ireland in the 2-0 World Cup victory over Norway last month, opened the scoring at Spotland in the 34th minute with his ninth goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United striker Caolan Lavery, who has previously been named in two of Michael O’Neill’s full international squads, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with injury.
The Canadian-born 24-year-old damaged knee ligaments during last month’s League One clash with Oldham Athletic and, following examination by medical staff, Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed he would miss the remainder of United’s games this term.
Wilder said: “Caolan is out for the season. He’s out for four weeks and so that takes him past it, the final game.
“His scan results have confirmed what we feared could be the problem and he will, unfortunately, be side-lined until the summer.
“It’s disappointing for us and Caolan, but it is an impact injury and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about them.”
