Champions League winners Benni McCarthy and Harry Kewell are in Belfast carrying out their UEFA Pro Licence coaching awards.
McCarthy, South Africa’s all-time top goal scorer, was thrilled at the chance to add to his UEFA A Licence: “It’s a fantastic federation and they have been extremely accommodating. It’s unbelievable what I’ve learnt from making the transition from player to going into management and coaching.
“The people that come and talk to us on these courses are incredible. Having people like Nigel Best (Coach Education Manager) as head coach sharing ideas is very inspiring.”
Harry Kewell is also in Belfast working towards his UEFA Pro Licence: “In football if I start something I’ll finish it and this is the final step in getting my licence but only the start of a career in management.
“Here they have gave me the confidence to go out and be a coach. I’ve been able to work at Watford’s Under 23’s for the last two years and that’s all because I got my licence here.”
The ex Premier League stars went on to reveal what coaches have inspired them throughout their careers and what clubs they would one day hope to be managing.
