Junior Cup Round 1B recap

The fonaCAB Craig Stanfield Junior Cup first round continued on Saturday with another multitude of ties taking place up and down the country.

Cleary Celtic, losing finalists last season, might have harboured hopes of going one better this time but those ambitions were dashed at the first hurdle after they crashed out to Rosario YC at the Ulidia Playing Fields.

Ciaran Sherry was instrumental in their demise with a superb 13-minute hat-trick midway through the second half, in addition to earlier strikes from Peter Whan and Dominic McConville.

But Sherry's hat-trick wasn't the quickest of the day. That honour fell to Cloughmills' Jordan Foster who hit three in just 11 minutes as his side knocked ten goals past Moira Albion at Drumbolcan Park.

Nine more players laid claim to the match ball:- Cameron Cochrane (Bryansburn Rangers II), Gareth Brown (Foyle Harps), Bailey Carroll (St. Oliver Plunkett II), Aidan Scullion (FC Antrim), Matthew Lorimer (Clough Rangers), Ian Cameron (Dunmurry Rec. II), Jordan Byrne (Greencastle Rovers) and Armagh Celtic duo Ryan Leeman and Cillian Sheridan.

The latter pair were outdone by team-mate Mark McSloy who bagged four goals as Celtic stormed to a 13-goal victory on the road at Ballymoney Swifts - the highest scoring team performance of the day.

Three other players also found the net four times, namely Noah Crenshaw (Ards Rangers II), Shea Devlin (Tummery Athletic) and Matthew Boyd (Raceview).

However, the honour of finishing top individual scorer fell to Coalisland Athletic's Conor Lavery with a stunning five-goal haul in their 10-0 defeat of AFC Craigavon Reserves!
