Northern Ireland senior men’s team manager Michael O’Neill has a couple of injury concerns ahead of the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Luxembourg and Bulgaria.
Providing a squad update at training in Belfast today, he revealed goalkeeper Conor Hazard has picked up an injury and is currently being assessed by his club, Plymouth Argyle.
However, definitely missing out due to injury are Stoke City midfielder Jordan Thompson (pictured) and Huddersfield Town defender Brodie Spencer.
Bolton Wanderers defender Eoin Toal, who missed his club’s league game at the weekend, is also carrying an injury, however he has joined up with the squad.
The Northern Ireland boss confirmed defender Jamal Lewis is currently in Brazil finalising a move from Newcastle United to Sao Paulo. He expects him to join up with the squad later this week.
He did not say if Thompson and Spencer will be replaced, however he still has a 23-strong squad at his disposal for the UNL matches.
Northern Ireland are set to play Luxembourg in League C Group 3 at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park in Belfast on Thursday (5 September).
And then they will be facing Bulgaria in a C3 game at Stadion Hristo Botev in Plovdiv on Sunday (8 September).
The Luxembourg game will have a 19.45 BST kick-off, while the game in Bulgaria is scheduled to start at 17.00 BST.
