Glens v Blues Clearer Water Irish Cup clash to be livestreamed

Glentoran v Linfield will start the ball rolling in the sixth round of this season’s Clearer Water Irish Cup.

The last 16 game between the Belfast rivals is to be livestreamed by the BBC on Friday 31 January.

NIFL Premiership leaders Linfield put four goals past Ballymena League Intermediate Division 1 team Wellington Rec without reply in the fifth round at the weekend.

And Glentoran, who currently lie second in Northern Ireland’s top flight, also scored four, however they had to come from 2-1 down against east Belfast neighbours Harland and Wolff Welders. They eventually won the tie against the NIFL Championship side by four goals to two.

Kick-off at The Oval on 31 January will be at 7.45pm, with the game being shown live on BBC iPlayer and on the BBC Sport NI website.

The Glens have not lifted the Irish Cup since 2020, while the Blues will be hoping to add another trophy win to their record 44 in the competition; they last won it in 2021.

The most recent meeting between the Premiership rivals was on Boxing Day when they drew 0-0 at The Oval.

The remaining seven ties in this season’s Clearer Water Irish Cup will be played the following day (Saturday 1 February). They are:

Dollingstown/Ballyclare Comrades v Institute/Loughgall

Dungannon Swifts v Coleraine

Bangor v Annagh United

Ballinamallard United v Carrick Rangers

Belfast Celtic/Moyola Park v Ards

Cliftonville v Glenavon/Dundela

Crusaders v Limavady United
