Defender Donnelly signs for Dundee

Northern Ireland defender Aaron Donnelly has sealed a permanent return to Scottish Premiership side Dundee following a successful loan spell last season.

The Dark Blues have signed the 21-year-old from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee.

The defender, who made his senior international debut against Andorra back in June, made 21 appearances for Dundee during his loan spell.

This season Donnelly had been on loan at Colchester United, playing 22 times for the English League Two club, however he was recalled by Forest last week.

And now he has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal to take him back to Dens Park on a permanent basis.

"I am absolutely delighted to be back at the club," the centre back told Dundee's website.

"As soon as I knew there was interest, it was a no-brainer to come back. My time here was excellent last season, really successful, and I hope to pick up where I left off.

"There was a real connection with the fans and the players and I'm looking to repay them for the great support. I can't wait to get back out in front of them.”

Donnelly, who has also played for his country at U17 level and extensively at U21 level, moved to Forest in 2019 from Dungannon Swifts. He also had a loan spell with Port Vale during his time at the Nottingham club, for whom he made just one senior appearance, in a League Cup game against Grimsby Town in August 2022.
