Clearer Water Irish Cup Fifth Round completed

The Clearer Water Irish Cup fifth round concluded on Tuesday evening with the four remaining outstanding ties producing victories for Glenavon, Loughgall, Dollingstown and Moyola Park.

Glenavon enjoyed a fairly straightforward passage into the next round with a two-goal defeat of Dundela at Mourneview Park.

The Lurgan Blues led at the break through Michael O'Connor when, on 37 minutes, he got on the end of a David McDaid cross from the right to head past the Dundela keeper from point blank range.

McDaid got on the scoresheet himself to kill the game off with just over ten minutes remaining when he was quickest to react to the rebound after his initial effort had been deflected.

Loughgall surrendered a two-goal lead over Institute at the Brandywell before winning through in the end.

The Villagers got off to a dream start courtesy of Alberto Balde's left-foot touch inside the opening 60 seconds, with James Carroll putting the visitors into an even stronger position moments from the break when he bundled home a corner that hadn't been cleared.

'Stute hit back after the interval, however, when Mikhail Kennedy twice found the net midway through the second half.

He pulled one back just before the hour after getting a touch to a Stephen Doherty corner before, on 69 minutes, he levelled from the spot after Padraig Lynch had been brought down inside the area.

But Loughgall were to have the last laugh when, three minutes from time, Fra McCaffrey glanced home the winner after substitute Conor McCloskey sent over a cross from the right.

And a late goal also proved to be the difference at Planters Park as Dollingstown narrowly edged out Ballyclare Comrades.

The only goal of the game came seven minutes from time after Aaron Duke connected with a cross to bury his header past the visiting keeper.

Meanwhile, at Mill Meadow there was nothing between Moyola Park and Belfast Celtic for the entire 120 minutes of normal and extra-time. It eventually took a penalty shoot-out to settle the tie, with Moyola winning through 7-6 to set up a home tie with Ards in the last 16.
