U16s to compete in UEFA tournament in Cyprus

Northern Ireland’s Under-16 team will be taking part in a UEFA development tournament in Cyprus later this month.

The U16s squad, mainly made up of players from the Irish FA JD Academy and the JD National Performance Programme, are due to take on their counterparts from Cyprus, Romania and Scotland in the four-nation tournament.

Head coach Kris Lindsay has chosen a 20-strong panel for the three matches, the first of which will be against Romania’s U16s at the Geroskipou Municipality Stadium, near Paphos in western Cyprus, on Wednesday 19 February (11am kick-off local time).

Northern Ireland’s second game in the UEFA tournament is on Friday 21 February against Cyprus U16s. That match is being staged at the Stelios Kyriakides Stadium (Pafiako) in Paphos (2.30pm start local time).

And Lindsay’s team will be back at the Geroskipou Municipality Stadium for their final game, against the Scots, on Monday 24 February (11am).

The 20-strong Northern Ireland U16s squad for the development tournament in Cyprus features:

Goalkeepers – Michael Doherty (Dungannon Swifts), Cole Smyth (Derry City).

Defenders – Sean Cassidy and Paul Stanfield (both Cliftonville), Calum Anderson and Sonny Trainor (both Linfield), Charlie Campbell (Glentoran), Calum Woods (Dundalk).

Midfielders – Finlay Ross and Jay Longridge (both Linfield), Caleb Sweeney (Larne), Emmett Morrison (Cliftonville), Harry Gough (Glenavon), Charlie McConnell (Bohemians).

Forwards – Eamonn Tohill and Coran Madden (both Cliftonville), Jack May (Linfield), Jahmi Kellyman (Aston Villa), Zak Magowan (Glentoran), Luke Hawe (Ballymena United).
