Northern Ireland to play Denmark away in June

Northern Ireland will face Denmark in an international challenge match in Copenhagen in June, it was confirmed today.

The friendly against the Danes is set to be staged at the Parken Stadium in the Danish capital on Saturday 7 June (kick-off time TBC).

Parken has a capacity of 38,065 for football matches and is the home ground of FC Copenhagen and the Danish national team.

The fixture was confirmed after Denmark lost against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals earlier this week. The venue was confirmed today.

The game is the first of two friendlies for Northern Ireland in June. They will also be playing against Iceland at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park on Tuesday 10 June (7.45pm).

Senior men’s team boss Michael O’Neill said the matches will provide good tests for his players ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026 European qualifiers this autumn.

Denmark are ranked 21st in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking. Iceland are ranked 70th, while Northern Ireland are one place below them.

Tickets for the friendly in Copenhagen are due to go on sale next week. There are still a limited number of tickets available for the Iceland game via irishfa.com/tickets.

Northern Ireland last faced the Danes in the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2024. Denmark won 1-0 in Copenhagen in June 2023, while Northern Ireland won the reverse fixture 2-0 in November 2023.

Meanwhile, Germany’s win against Italy in the UNL last eight confirmed their place in Qualifying Group A in the European qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2026 along with Northern Ireland, Slovakia and Luxembourg.

Game number one in Group A for Northern Ireland will be away to Luxembourg at the Stade de Luxembourg on Thursday 4 September, and on Sunday 7 September they will be away to Germany at the RheinEnergie Stadion in Cologne (Koln).

O’Neill’s team will then have a home double header in October. Matchday three will see Slovakia visit the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park on Friday 10 October, while on Monday 13 October the Germans will visit Belfast.

The final two games in Group A for Northern Ireland are against Slovakia away on Friday 14 November (venue TBC) and against Luxembourg at the National Football Stadium on Monday 17 November.

All six games will have a 7.45pm UK time kick-off. Ticket details will be announced in due course.
