Team News

Women’s Under-15s development team head coach Stephen Graham made three changes to the team that started the 2-0 defeat to Scotland in Northern Ireland’s opening game in the Bob Docherty Tournament.

Defender Caitlin Shields and attackers Annabelle Shaw and Ellie Tohill came in for Grace Steele, Abigail Curley and Annarose Robinson respectively.

The annual Bob Docherty Tournament, run by the Schools’ Association Football International Board (SAFIB), is being staged in Northern Ireland this year, with the games being played at Greenisland FC’s ground in County Antrim and at the nearby Ulster University Jordanstown campus.

The tournament is for U15 schoolgirls’ teams, although the respective squads usually feature several players involved in national development set-ups.

How it happened

Northern Ireland applied some good early pressure down the flanks, with Annabelle Shaw and Charley McMullan fashioning decent chances.

England had a shot from distance which was gathered in by Northern Ireland keeper Anna Roberts.

On 24 minutes McMullan tested England keeper Daisy Sherrin with a fine strike from the edge of the area, while six minutes later Roberts saved well at the feet of an England attacker.

In the 35th minute McMullan dribbled past two players down the left flank before cutting inside and firing in a shot which Sherrin did well to keep out.

Half-time: Northern Ireland WU15s 0-0 England WU15s

After the break a dangerous corner from McMullan was met by Grace Guest who shot just wide.

England’s Eleanor Corbett let fly from distance, however her effort went over the bar.

On 60 minutes Northern Ireland substitute Abi Curley dribbled past a couple of defenders before slipping the ball to fellow sub Annarose Robinson, whose shot drifted past the post.

England piled on the pressure towards the end, forcing a series of corners. However, Northern Ireland defended well, with Autumn Edgar, Sara Deveny and Caitlin Shields making good clearances.
