fonaCAB Craig Stanfield Junior Cup third round recap

The fonaCAB Craig Stanfield Junior Cup is down to the last 64 following Saturday's Third Round ties.

The 'tie of the round' pitted Coleraine & District League side Dervock against Ahoghill Thistle from the Ballymena Saturday Morning League at Paddy's Park.

A keenly fought contest, Dervock led from the eight minute when Ryan Boyd found the net, an advantage they held until Mark Murchan levelled for the visitors with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to force extra-time.

Thistle were reduced to ten men three minutes into added time when David Drummond was dismissed after collecting his second booking of the game but they rallied well to take the lead through Jason Johnston on 96 minutes.

But, five minutes after that, the visitors lost another man when Isaac Wylie also picked up his second caution before Lee Lynn levelled from the spot for Dervock. Rhys Ferris then bagged an 108th minute as Dervock made their numerical advantage count.

Coalisland Athletic, winners of the competition in 2022, fought back from two goals down to cruise past Ballynure OB in Doagh.

Cameron Bell and Marc Campbell had fired the home side into a commanding lead midway through the first half but Rhys Teague, Stephen Corr and Conor Lavery responded for Coalisland to edge them into the lead at the break.

Lavery then bagged another couple in the second half to claim his hat-trick in addition to an Aquinas Gervin strike as the visitors ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Harryville Homers, another side with an impressive Junior Cup pedigree, blasted Crumlin Star II aside in Ballymena. Five of their six goals came through Randal Reid with Sam Armstrong wrapping the scoring up right at the end.

All Saints OB were the top scorers on the day as they hit a stunning 11 goals without reply past Craigavon City Reserves. Patrick Ferris claimed four for himself, with Conall Gordon also bagging a hat-trick while Brian Donnelly knocked home two on top of a couple of own goals from the visitors.

Thomas Elder also found the net on four occasions as his Balnamore swept past Strangford in Ballymoney.

Also claiming hat-tricks were Conor Craig (Cregagh Wanderers), Lee Brennan (Enniskillen Town United), Matthew Boyd (Raceview) and Steven Campbell (Ardstraw).
