Clearer Water Irish Cup | Fourth Round recap

Despite the best efforts of Storm Bert five Clearer Water Irish Cup fourth round ties survived on Saturday as Banbridge Rangers, Belfast Celtic, Dollingstown, Moyola Park and Rathfriland Rangers all booked their places in the next round.

Mid Ulster Intermediate A side Banbridge Rangers knocked out NIFL Premier Intermediate League opponents Queen's University at Cheney Park.

Scoreless for 90 minutes, 16-year-old Jay Gilmore fired Rangers in front ten minutes into extra-time after he cut in from the left to send a curling finish past keeper Cathair Donnelly in off the inside of the post.

The Students levelled seven minutes later through Matthew Hughes who was allowed the time and space to head from just three yards out.

With no further goals forthcoming the game inevitably went to penalties, with Rangers emerging victorious thanks to Chris Gill's decisive strike and two saves from keeper Mackenzie Pauley.

Belfast Celtic also accounted for NIFL opposition as they got past Portstewart at Mullaghacall courtesy of a Shane McKernan finish midway through the first half.

PIL leaders Dollingstown progressed with a 1-0 win away to Lurgan Town. Gary Liggett bagged what proved to be the winner three minutes from the break when he prodded the ball home from close range.

Moyola Park also needed just one goal to defeat St. James' Swifts at Mill Meadow, but it took a Paddy McLaughlin strike five minutes into stoppage time to settle the tie.

But the goals flowed as Rathfriland Rangers edged past Rosario 4-2 after extra-time at the Ulidia Playing Fields.

Peter Whan got Rosario off to the ideal start with the opening goal inside the first minute, but Jack Chambers hit back for the visitors midway through the first half.

Whan struck again within moments of the second half getting underway to restore home advantage, but just as it looked like the NAFL Premier Division side would progress up popped Josh Cooper in the fourth minute of injury time to force an extra 30 minutes.

Matthew Holloway then fired Rangers in front for the first time in the 99th minute before, three minutes from time, Ruari Fitzpatrick struck to ensure a fifth round berth for Rathfriland.

Three ties fell by the wayside - Knockbreda v Banbridge Town (rescheduled for Saturday 30th November, kick-off 1:30pm), Wellington Rec. v Dergview and Islandmagee v Ballymacash Rangers.
