The National Football Stadium at Windsor Park will host the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup UEFA qualifier between Northern Ireland senior women’s team and Latvia.
The game, which takes place on Tuesday 21 September, marks the first time the senior women’s team will have played at the stadium since its redevelopment.
I will be particularly proud to walk the team out at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park. It will be a memorable occasion
The game in Belfast is the second of a home double-header for boss Kenny Shiels’ side with Luxembourg the opposition on Friday 17 September (venue to be confirmed).
Shiels acknowledges it as another important step for the women’s game in Northern Ireland.
“With the sense of occasion that was the UEFA Super Cup brought to Belfast last week still fresh in my mind, I will be particularly proud to walk the team out at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park. It will be a memorable occasion,” he said.
Captain Marissa Callaghan echoed the manager's sentiments and said it will be an ‘amazing experience’.
“I know I speak for the whole squad when I say how excited we are. Stepping over the white line at the National Football Stadium is something we have all dreamt about for years.”
Northern Ireland then take on England at Wembley Stadium on 23 October.
