Jamie Ward has returned to Nottingham Forest after his season-long loan at fellow Championship outfit Burton Albion was cut short.
The 30-year-old Northern Ireland winger joined Burton on the final day of the last transfer window in August and was expected to remain with the Brewers until the end of the current campaign.
However, after scoring four goals in 19 games for Nigel Clough’s side, the player himself expressed an interest in a return to the City Ground.
“It was in everybody’s interest that the loan was ended early, and we will be using the resources elsewhere as soon as we can,” declared Clough.
The former Derby County player joined Nottingham Forest on a free transfer from the Rams in the summer of 2015 and to date has played 40 games and scored six goals for the club who are currently just three points off the relegation places in the Championship.
Ward, who has won 29 caps for his country, is expected to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s crucial home clash with Bristol City, who are on the same number of points as Forest.
