Premier League side Southampton have loaned 20-year-old midfielder Shea Charles to Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday for the forthcoming season.
The former Manchester City player will now link up with his younger brother Pierce, who has become a regular member of the Owls' first team squad this term.
Speaking to the Wednesday website, Shea said: “I heard about a possible move a couple of weeks ago and obviously with my brother being here I spoke to him and he had nothing but good things to say about the club.
“I was looking to go out on loan this season and this is a great club and a great manager to work under. I spoke to him (Danny Rohl) a few days ago and I got a good feel about him and I hope he got a good feel about me.
“I played in the Championship with Southampton last season and I learnt quite a lot, so I would like to think I can build on that experience.”
With the closure of the summer transfer window just days away a number of other Northern Ireland players have also been on the move.
Nottingham Forest striker Dale Taylor has also secured a season-long loan - to League One side Wigan Athletic
“Me and my family are buzzing,” he told the club website. “It’s a great next step in my career. I can’t wait to get started and do my best for the club.
“I know Wigan is a massive club with good support, and I know a few of the players here already.”
Latics boss Shaun Maloney is delighted to have secured the services of the former Linfield striker for the next nine months.
He said: "Dale is a talented footballer who we believe will be a fantastic addition to our squad. He has already gained a lot of experience playing in League One and internationally with Northern Ireland, and I am really excited to work with him.
“He is a strong and robust forward who will add a different dimension to our frontline.”
Meanwhile, winger Jordan Jones has signed a three-year deal with League Two Carlisle United after departing Wigan last week.
“He’s a great signing for us,” declared manager Paul Simpson. “He’s a really positive, attack-minded player who I’m hoping will bring some creativity, assists and add some goals to our team.
“He’s played at a high level and had a really good career to date, and I’m hoping he can continue that at Carlisle United.”
Elsewhere, 18-year-old Cormac Austin has penned his first professional contract with Premier League side Crystal Palace, while Birmingham City defender Tommy Fogarty has linked up on loan with Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship.
