Alistair McCann has had to withdraw from the Northern Ireland senior men’s squad due to injury.
It was confirmed today that the midfielder has a calf strain which has ruled him out ofthe upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers against San Marino and Slovenia.
There are no plans at this stage to call up a replacement for the 23-year-old, who is returning to his club, Preston North End, for treatment.
McCann’s withdrawal means Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill still has a 24-strong panel to choose from for the home double header.
And there are no other injury concerns at this stage, according to the Northern Ireland manager.
The Group H qualifier against San Marino is being staged at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park on Saturday (14 October; 14.00 BST), while the match against Slovenia is set to be played at the National Football Stadium next Tuesday (17 October; 19.45 BST).
