Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has ruled himself out of Northern Ireland’s upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Austria and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The 31-year-old had been due to fly to the team’s training camp on Monday, but withdrew late on Sunday night.
Northern Ireland Manager Michael O’Neill said: “I am disappointed that the player has ruled himself out of the two games but our focus us on the players who are with us and I will address this situation after the international period.”
While Lafferty has scored four international goals in the past two years, O’Neill still has plenty of striking options at his disposal.
Bolton forward Josh Magennis has returned to fitness following the injury that kept him out of the home matches against Bonsia & Herzegovina and Israel.
Liam Boyce, fresh from scoring his seventh goal of the season for Burton Albion, is in line for selection, as is Will Grigg who netted the second international goal of his career against Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.
Rotherham United striker Kyle Vassell has been called up into the squad and will make his international debut if given the nod.
