Northern Ireland have risen to 20th in the world, their highest position in the history of the FIFA World Rankings.
The wins over San Marino and Czech Republic earlier this month have pushed Michael O’Neill’s side up two places, ahead of Sweden, Iceland and Costa Rica.
Northern Ireland’s next opponents, Germany, have moved back to the top of the list following their recent victories over Czech Republic and Norway.
Wales are the highest ranked of the home nations in 13th, two places ahead of England in 15th. The Republic of Ireland have dropped to 34th in the world with Scotland in 43rd.
Northern Ireland could now be seeded if they make the FIFA World Cup 2018 Play-Offs. All will be decided with that match against Germany and the game against Norway next month.
