Striker Shayne Lavery has penned a two-year deal with League One side Cambridge United following his release by Blackpool at the end of last season.
The former Linfield man, who scored 18 goals in 106 appearances for the Tangerines, was pleased to have secured his future early ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“I’m really happy,” Lavery told the club website. “There has been a lot of interest from Cambridge this summer so it’s fantastic to get everything sorted and get it over the line.
“I am excited to see what the season will bring – I have been really impressed by the manager so far, so I can’t wait to get working with him and meet the rest of the lads.”
United boss Gary Monk was equally delighted to have secured the 25-year-old’s signature. He said: “Shayne is a player we targeted early on this summer so it’s brilliant to be able to welcome him to the club.
“As a striker he has clear attributes that will help to create and score goals, along with huge endeavour to work hard for the team. He is a fantastic character who will fit well into our club.”
Lavery spent four years as a teenager at Everton before being released by the Premier League outfit in 2019. He returned ‘home’ and signed for Linfield, scoring 47 goals in 77 outings as he helped David Healy’s side to back to back Irish League titles as well as an Irish Cup success in 2021.
He made his international debut against Panama in 2018 and has since gone on to score three goals in 19 appearances for Northern Ireland.
