Tomorrow’s NIFL Premiership game between Cliftonville and Dungannon Swifts at Solitude will feature three match officials from Iceland.
Helgi Mikael Jónasson (pictured), who has been a FIFA referee since 2019, is set to take charge of the game in north Belfast.
And the assistant referees will be Egill Gudvardur Gudlaugsson, a FIFA AR since 2020, and Kristján Már Ólafs, who joined the FIFA AR list this year.
The officials have travelled to Northern Ireland as part of an exchange programme between the refereeing departments of the Irish FA and Knattspyrnusamband Islands (KSI - Football Association of Iceland).
However, a Northern Ireland ref will be involved tomorrow. FIFA referee Ian McNabb is set to be the fourth official.
The new season in Iceland starts on 10 April and the NIFL Premiership match at Solitude (3pm start) will provide the Icelandic officials with vital game time as they continue their preparations for the big kick-off.
It is planned that Irish FA match officials will travel to Iceland later this year as part of the exchange programme between the two football associations.
