Northern Ireland U17s were edged out by the Faroe Islands at the Nordic Cup at the weekend.
A thunderous strike just before half-time proved to be the difference on Saturday (August 6) in what was a frustrating afternoon in Norway for Gerard Lyttle’s side.
Chances for Sam Anderson and Ryan Donnelly came and went before the Faroes broke the deadlock just before the break.
The second session saw Northern Ireland create more opportunities but they just could not find the equaliser.
The best of the second-half chances fell to Kieran Morrison who found himself through on goal only to put his shot just wide. Moments later it was Morrison again who steered another effort wide of the target from the edge of the box.
Despite several good passages of play - and ‘keeper Mason Munn having very little to do throughout - it was the Faroe Islands who saw it out to claim the win.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Northern Ireland - especially on the back of a heavy defeat to Denmark in their opening game.
Their final match of the competition comes on Wednesday (10 August) with Sweden the opposition.
