Northern Ireland’s senior women’s team are set to face Belgium Women away in an international challenge match this summer.
The game, set for Thursday 23 June, will serve as vital preparation for the UEFA Women’s Euros in England in July. The venue and KO time are currently TBC.
Belgium will provide strong opposition for Kenny Shiels’ squad. They are currently placed 20th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings and are also set to feature at the Euros where they will take on France, Italy and Iceland.
Among their key players is Janice Cayman. The recently named Belgium Player of the Year plays her club football at Lyon. She is the Red Flames’ most capped player and the second highest goalscorer.
The girls in green and white made history last year when they qualified for what will be their first ever major tournament.
Northern Ireland’s first game at this summer’s Euros will be against Norway on 7 July followed by matches versus Austria (11 July) and tournament hosts England (15 July).
All three of Northern Ireland’s Group A games at the Euros are being staged at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.
