It was with sadness that the Irish Football Association learned of the passing of former Northern Ireland Under-21 international Michael Newberry.
Michael won caps for his country at both U21 and U19 level.
The 27-year-old defender, who was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, started his career with hometown club Newcastle United and also had a spell in Iceland with Vikingur before he joined Linfield in January 2021.
He scored six goals in 89 appearances for the Blues, and he won two Irish Premiership titles and an Irish Cup in his three years with the south Belfast club.
The defender moved across the city and signed for Cliftonville in July, making 25 appearances for the Reds.
The association's thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and team-mates at this sad time.
