Cliftonville Ladies midfielder Louise McDaniel has been called up to the Northern Ireland senior women’s squad for Tuesday’s Euro qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
McDaniel replaces Connie Scofield, who made her debut against Malta on Friday night in Northern Ireland’s first match of their UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualification campaign.
Scofield was injured during the League B Group 3 game against the Maltese which ended in a 0-0 stalemate. The midfielder has returned to her club, Women’s Championship side London City Lionesses, for treatment.
It’s the first time McDaniel (23) has featured in the senior squad under Tanya Oxtoby since she was appointed manager of the senior women’s team last summer.
The Cliftonville Ladies midfielder, who has earned 11 senior caps and scored one senior goal to date, last appeared for Northern Ireland as a substitute in a friendly against Italy in November 2022.
Northern Ireland are set to play the Bosnians in their second B3 game on Tuesday (9 April). The game at the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Training Centre in Zenica is due to start at 3.30pm CET (2.30pm BST).
In the run-up to the game against Malta a virus affected a handful of Northern Ireland players and staff.
Goalkeeper Maddy Harvey-Clifford is the latest player to feel under the weather. She did not travel with the squad to Bosnia earlier today, however she is expected to join up with the group at some stage tomorrow.
Late call-up McDaniel and the remainder of the squad and staff flew out to Bosnia this morning.
Striker Casey Howe, who missed Friday’s game against Malta in Belfast due to illness, was also in the travelling party.
