Two goals in either half saw Willowbank FC book their spot in the semi-finals of the fonaCAB Junior Cup at the expense of last year's runners-up, Greenisland.
The elements played a huge part in the tie-of-the-round clash at Olympia in Belfast and it was a cagey start for both sides as they battled through the high winds and persistent rain.
Despite the weather, the initial exchanges favoured visitors Greenisland and with seven minutes on the clock they came close to netting the opener with a free header but it was collected Willowbank 'keeper Ciaran Kelly.
The visitors threatened again after 15 minutes when McClure had a direct shot at goal saved by Kelly in the Willowbank goal.
On 19 minutes it was Willowbank's turn when their skipper Hughes' shot whizzed past the right-hand upright.
It was quickly becoming an end-to-end game and with six minutes of the half remaining the hosts who drew first blood when a cross from the right found man of the match Connor McCullough who fired a low shot through the legs of Kris Malone in the Greenisland goal.
The second half started with a rejuvenated Greenisland going in search of an equaliser but luck just wasn’t on their side as Gary Dodds' header drifted over the Willowbank bar.
Both sides continued to have chances but the game was put to bed on 83 minutes when Greenisland tried to clear a cross only for it to be deflected into their net, doubling Willowbank's advantage and securing their passage to the last four.
