The Female Sports Forum is a multi-sport organisation which is aiming to increase sporting opportunities for women and girls.
Angela Platt, representing the Northern Ireland Sports Forum and the Female Sports Forum said that funding support is vital to develop the leadership qualities of females and young girls in sport “This project is designed to develop the next female leaders within sport in Northern Ireland. Our aim is not only to increase female participation and to increase the profile of female sport but to also provide strong female role models in leadership positions. With the help of Sport NI’s Active Awards for Sport funding and this programme in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College we are well placed to build this pathway for young females.”
Paul Boyle, Head of Sport and Leisure at Belfast Metropolitan College expressed his delight at their involvement with the Female Sports Forum: “Belfast Metropolitan College is delighted to facilitate the Active Leadership programme. This exciting and innovative programme will provide our students with an invaluable opportunity to develop their leadership skills through Sport. It is also hoped that the programme will raise awareness of the various career opportunities that exist for females in the Sport and Fitness Industries, and encourage more females to take advantage of the wide variety of education and training opportunities at Belfast Met.”
Belfast Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon, said: “Sport has tremendous benefits for individuals and society - it boosts mental and physical health and instils confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.These transferable skills are invaluable in all areas of life and especially valuable to women and girls as we work towards gender balance in all areas of society. Belfast City Council is at the forefront in encouraging more female participation in sport so I am delighted to lend our support also to this new programme for coach education.”
