These festivals were themed on The FIFA 2010 World Cup finalists, with each small sided team representing one country. Over 1,600 children took part in these festivals across Northern Ireland.
The Fermanagh Area saw seven Primary Schools come together to play in the festival last week at Enniskillen Integrated Primary School. With over 110 children kitted out in the various countries colours, the day was a great success with a five-a-side tournament being played in the fantastic May sunshine.
Trevor Erskine, IFA Grassroots manager and McDonald’s project co-ordinator talked about the importance of grassroots football. “These festivals highlight the importance of UEFA Grassroots Day which runs in conjunction with the festivals. Grassroots football is important especially with young children as they are the footballers of the future whether it is for recreational football or indeed International football.”
These matches were played in conjunction with UEFA Grassroots Day which took place on 19th May.
