NORTHERN Ireland's achievements in 2005 were duly recognised on Monday evening at the lavish Ramada Hotel when David Healy, Steve Davis and Lawrie Sanchez were honoured at the prestigious Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards.
David Healy, Northern Ireland's all-time leading marksman and scorer of that goal against England, picked up the main award, the coveted Sports Star of the Year ahead of competition which included GAA legend Peter Canavan, Richard Archibald from Rowing and Squash star Madeline Perry.
Lawrie Sanchez was named Manager/Coach of the Year while Steve Davis picked up the inaugural George Best Breakthrough Award, established in honour of the late Northern Ireland legend.
