NEVIN SPENCE

Release Date: 16/09/2012

The Association would like to convey its sadness at the news of the terrible accident that took the life of Nevin Spence, his brother Graham, and his father Noel.

Nevin was a former U16 Northern Ireland international and also a very talented rugby player, went onto play for Ulster and Ireland at various levels including being a member of the current Ulster Rugby team.

Desi Curry, who managed Nevin at U16 level for Northern Ireland said: "Nevin played at right-back in the team that beat England in 2005 which was our first win against England in the Victory Shield for 72 years.  I remember he was offered trials in England with Manchester City being one of the clubs interested, but he choose instead to go to Wallace High School to do his A-Levels and went on to excel for them in rugby too.  I don’t know of anyone who has played both football and rugby to such a high level as a schoolboy.  He was popular with everyone and was an absolute joy to be around.”

Our thoughts are with the Spence family and friends at this time.
