FUN IN THE SUN

Release Date: 30/07/2012

The excellent facilities at Kilmore road playing fields Crossgar was the venue for the second County Down IFA summer soccer school. As the Co.Down milk cup squads left their training base for their games in the North West the young players had it all to themselves.

As the sun shone the players enjoyed their matches alongside skill based activities and challenges.

Again the week included foreign guests who added a continental feel to it all. Visiting from Spain was Pablo Conill. The young thirteen year old who is also a season ticket holder at Barcelona enjoyed the week’s events with his new friends. Pablo commented: “Not only did I enjoy the coaching and making new friends but my English has really improved. I also enjoyed the Knutty Crust bread and the craic!”

Taking time out to deliver a ball for each participant was Ifa grassroots manager Trevor Erskine. Trevor spent time observing and acknowledged the quality of play through the small sided game ethos. “County Down has produced many a good player and hopefully we can nurture and develop this next generation of quality young talent to fulfil their potential” Trevor said.

Head coach Seamus Heath appreciated the quality of staff on hand making the week a productive one. Seamus added: “The enthusiasm and work ethic of Kenny, Heather, Ashley and Dominic was fantastic. It all transferred onto the players who gained the rewards. It’s not every week you have an international captain and coach delivering sessions for you.”

Football continues all summer with camps in Newcastle, Ballynahinch and Crossgar coming up. For further information go to ifa website or email sheath@irishfa.com
