SPORT IN THE COMMUNITY

Release Date: 27/07/2012

THE Irish FA and Ulster GAA met together this week as part of the DSD funded ‘Sport in the Community’ project which was launched in April.

Maria Wilson (Irish FA Volunteer Development and Policy Officer) and Aongus O’Keeffe (Irish FA Club and Community Development Officer) met with their respected counterparts, Sharon Haughey (Ulster GAA Volunteer Development and Policy Officer) and Maura Kelly (Ulster GAA Club and Community Development Officer) to discuss the broader work of each department and to put plans in place for the joint events which will take place over the coming months.

The project is focused on building the capacity of Clubs and Volunteers. Some of the joint objectives will include a sponsorship and marketing workshop, volunteering workshop, community relations event, open forum, volunteer development officer training, joint volunteering opportunities, and a joint annual Volunteer Awards event.

This event was a positive example of how both organisations are working together to improve operations and best practice in club community development and volunteering.
