GLENTORAN Belfast United, the current NIWFA Premier League champions will travel to Malta to represent Northern Ireland in the qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League from the 11–16 August.

Drawn in Group 3, the Northern Ireland Champions will participate in the qualifying mini tournament against hosts Birkirkara FC, Portuguese side SU 1 ° Dezembro and Olimpia Cluj-Napoca from Romania.


Speaking after the draw, Glentoran Belfast United Manager Cheryl Lamont said: “Glentoran Belfast United are delighted to once again be in this excellent tournament as the League winners from last year, 2011.  We recognise that there is strong competition in the group from the Portuguese and Romanian sides who are both ranked above us in the group, and also the Maltese side who are hosting. We are very much looking forward to the challenge and are currently working hard to make sure we are ready to give of our best in August in Malta.”
