WELSH Disability Football Club, Llandudno return to Northern Ireland this week to defend their Coca-Cola Community Cup title at the Billy Neill Centre, Dundonald.

The Welsh club has held the Community Cup Elite title for the past four years but will have to face a record number of local entries this year if they are to remain champions.

One local Disability Football Club - the Belvoir Blades from Belfast are particularly looking forward to the challenge having recently been crowned the IFA Disability Football League Champions for the first time in 2012.  Some of the players from the club got up close and personal with the trophy when they helped to officially launch the 2012 Coca-Cola Community Cup, but they will have to be on form to get their hands on it for real this week.

This 5-a-side Disability Football event is for clubs and adult centres that have Learning and/or Physical Disability Football Programmes. An impressive number of 450 footballers from over 40 teams from Northern Ireland and beyond will descend on the Billy Neill complex on June 13 and 14 to compete in four ability divisions. Matches will take place each day from 11am-3pm; with presentations taking place after the final game.

There’s a place for all ability levels at the Coca-Cola Community Cup and Irish FA Disability Football Development Manager, Alan Crooks, was keen to highlight the importance of the event: “The Community Cup gives players from across Northern Ireland the opportunity to test their skills against similar teams from the Republic of Ireland and the UK. The four ability divisions result in a level playing field as every game is competitive and everyone has the opportunity to impress. I’m really looking forward to the event and with Coca-Cola’s support I’m sure it will be one to remember.”

Katie Hutchinson, Event Team Manager, Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland, added:  “Coca-Cola is dedicated to providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get out and get active. We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Irish FA by supporting the Coca-Cola Community Cup for the sixth consecutive year.

"The tournament has gone from strength to strength and with a record number of entries from across the UK and Ireland, this year is shaping up to be the best yet! We look forward to two great days of competition.”
