The Northern Ireland Under 16 team will play two games against Belgium. The teams meet at Donegal Celtic Park on Tuesday 9 October and two days later the Ballymena Showgrounds is the venue. Both games kick off at 7.00 pm.
Northern Ireland Manager Desi Curry is looking forward to his young side taking on top class opposition. “Games against the Belgians have always been very close at this level but in recent years Belgian football has come on by leaps and bounds. You have only to look at the number of Belgian players playing in the FA Premiership and the Belgian Senior team is now ranked among the best in Europe. It will be a good experience for our boys to pit their skills against one of the best Continental teams” added Curry.
For two Northern Ireland players the game at Donegal Celtic Park will have a special significance. Seanna Foster and Stephen Fallon are pupils at nearby De La Salle College. Foster’s performances this season at full back earned him the captaincy of the team against England while Fallon has caught the eye with his mazy runs and dribbling skills. They will be only two of the players sure to interest a host of scouts from the top clubs attending the games.
The Northern Ireland Schools’ Football Association is offering free entrance to any school or youth group wishing to attend the games. Any group wishing to gain free entrance should contact the NISFA Treasurer Edwin Ferris by email firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain a group pass.
