Northern Ireland U17 girls today won the Carrick Tournament with a 3 - 0 success over Glasgow Girls at Carrickfergus.
This was a great achievement for the girls and it was the first time N.Ireland had won the tournament. Today's goals were two great first half strikes from Moya Feehan and a stunning 25 yard strike from Aoife Curran in the second half. The girls had dominated the game and only for some excellent goalkeeping from the Glasgow goalkeeper the scoreline could have been more. This was a great alround performance and it sets the girls well up for the upcoming friendly games in Estonia in two weeks time.
During the tournament they had beaten Danville University from the USA 1 - 0 , Larne 1 - 0, Ballymena All Stars 2 - 0 and been defeated yesterday 2 - 1 by Glasgow having already qualified for the final.
Great credit goes to the coaches Alison Nicholl, Noel Mitchell, Lee Wilson and Heather Mc Cracken. This result again shows the success of the clear player pathway through the Regional Excellence Programme to the U15 Development squad.
The majority of the girls came through from the development squad to the U17's where the good work carried out be Niall Curneen has been carried on by Alison and Noel.
