Release Date: 22/08/2012
AS part of the SCORE Pilot Project, the Irish FA has teamed up with a number of girls and women’s football clubs to deliver Summer Soccer Schools.
On Monday, 18 girls aged between 6–14 years of age took part in a one day camp at Millbrook, the home of Ballynahinch Youth Football Club.
Ballynahinch Youth have made great strides in girls’ football in recent years and provide opportunities for girls to play in mixed teams and in girls only teams.
The SCORE Pilot Project, funded through the UEFA HatTrick programme, is a unique initiative aimed at increasing the capacity of local girls and women’s football clubs in the hope that more girls will take up the game.
To date 2,500 girls have participated in the various activities associated with the SCORE Project with the Summer Soccer Schools marking the end of the funding. It is hoped that further funding will be secured to run a similar programme next year.
