Turn on your television or read the back pages of almost any newspaper, and itís very likely you will see or read something related to the world of professional football.

It’s the most popular sport in the world, with millions of fans tuning in every week to watch their heroes in action.  But for all the headlines the professional game demands, around the globe the sport depends on the involvement and work of countless coaches, parents, volunteers and players at the Grassroots Level, the foundation on the game.

Every year, the governing body for football in Europe (UEFA) set aside a full week of events, right across the continent to celebrate and promote the work done at Grassroots Level.  The Irish FA will be running a number of events during this year’s UEFA Grassroots Week that will showcase some of the work going on in Northern Ireland within Grassroots Football and provide opportunities for involvement.  This year, the week runs from Monday 14th – Friday 18th May.

One area where the Irish FA is heavily involved at grassroots is within Primary Schools, with 30 full-time coaches employed delivering sessions aimed to improve not just the football abilities of the children, but their all round awareness of movements and skills.  The coaches will be holding events in each of the Education and Library Boards with children from the programme coming together and getting involved in a fun-packed programme.  The dates and venues are listed below.
