DOMINANT BLUES REGRET MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

LINFIELD were held to a scoreless draw this evening by Faroese visitors B36 Tórshavn in their Champions League first qualifying round clash at Windsor Park.

The Blues dominated throughout and were left to rue a penalty miss by Peter Thompson seven minutes from the break.

Mark McAllister also had a goal ruled out by Belgian official Wim Smet in the final quarter-of-an-hour for an infringement in the box.

But the visitors had a near miss themselves a short time later when Polish striker Lukasz Cieslewicz struck the outside of an upright with a low effort from the edge of the area.

Linfield travel to the Faroes next Tuesday for the return with Cypriot side AEL Limassol awaiting the winners in the next round.
